Hello, my name is Alice. I have 3 children: 2 adults and 1 who is 16, and 3 grandchildren. When life takes a turn, you're not ready for, you do your best to meet the challenge, even when it is not an easy one. This is what I have been going through for the last 3 years. I have struggled with asking for assistance; that is why, for me, this has gotten to a point where I feel I have no choice but to reach out. Here is my struggle
The cost of living, including medical care, has become increasingly burdensome. Three years ago, I began an unexpected and challenging health journey. After a year of extensive testing, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). During this period, I specifically requested testing for Lyme disease on three separate occasions, but all blood tests returned negative results. I attempted a pain medication, which unfortunately caused rare side effects, including short-term memory loss and blister-like spots on my lower legs. Due to these adverse reactions, I have been hesitant to try additional medications. Subsequently, I consulted a naturopathic doctor who, after reviewing my medical history and conducting further tests, diagnosed me with Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and four parasitic infections. Financial constraints delayed the initiation of treatment, and although we managed to make the costs somewhat manageable, the treatment led to additional health complications. Without insurance coverage, I have relied on credit cards to finance my care. During my first year of treatment, I was hospitalized for three days and underwent exploratory surgery, yet the cause of my pain remained undetermined. My husband is our sole source of income, and days when I am uncertain about how we will recover financially. Once my treatments are complete, my husband will also require treatment for Lyme disease and other health concerns. I will continue to live with CRPS, which causes persistent and severe pain in my legs, hips, and ribcage, resembling deep bruising and tenderness. Although I have experienced these symptoms throughout my life, they were only formally diagnosed during my initial year of testing. Any assistance you can provide to help alleviate these financial burdens would be deeply appreciated.
