At 58 years old, I am finally learning that starting over doesn’t mean you failed. Sometimes, starting over means you survived.
I am asking for help with something deeply personal to me: raising funds toward a mommy makeover/plastic surgery that I hope will help me feel more comfortable, confident, and like myself again.
For most of my life, I have put everyone else first.
I raised five children. I built and owned my own business. I worked, provided, sacrificed, and did everything I could to create a good life for my family. I spent years being strong for everyone around me.
But somewhere along the way, I lost a part of myself.
I went through some very painful experiences, and for approximately five years, I struggled with depression. There were times when simply getting through the day was an accomplishment. I didn’t feel like the woman I once was, and I struggled with my confidence and my sense of identity.
But my story doesn’t end there.
I’m fighting my way back.
I went back to school after being away from school for many years, and today I am pursuing my graduate degree in mental health counseling. I am working toward becoming someone who can sit with people during their darkest moments and remind them that their story isn’t over.
And now, I want to do something for myself.
My body has changed through motherhood, aging, and the many chapters of my life. A mommy makeover is not about trying to be 25 again. It’s about looking in the mirror and feeling connected to the woman I see there. It’s about confidence. It’s about reclaiming a part of myself that I feel I lost.
I don’t want to erase my past. My past made me who I am. I simply want to feel good about the woman who survived it.
I know that plastic surgery is a major financial commitment, and I know that not everyone will be able to contribute. I completely understand. But if you are able to donate, no amount is too small. And if you cannot donate, sharing my fundraiser, sending encouragement, or simply believing in me means more than you know.
For years, I poured my heart into raising my children, building my business, and taking care of others.
Now, at 58, I’m choosing to invest a little of that love back into myself.
I’m rebuilding my confidence.
I’m pursuing my education.
I’m creating a new future.
I’m learning to love myself again.
This isn’t about becoming a different woman. It’s about becoming myself again.
Thank you for reading my story, for supporting me, and for helping me believe that it really is never too late for a new beginning. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Arelis
