Bolt, is my service dog, article search, my protector, and enjoys PSA and we are at a level 2 right now.

Sadly, I gave him femur bones and fresh, frozen bones you get at all the pet stores.

He has wore down his teeth flat and can no longer eat comfortably nor enjoy his sports which rely on teeth to execute successful grabs of decoys.

I have been trying to get the money together, but I am now on a medical leave and can't work extra nor work at all sometimes. It is frustrating and it's a hard reality to face when you can't help your dog.

I called a specialist and got an estimate, and if there is anything left over, I will donate it to another dog's need of teeth.

Also, anyone who donates will receive a photo or photos of him with his new titanium crowns.

At this point, he needs root canals which add 1,600 to each tooth. I wanted to avoid this, but the wear and tear is apparent.

He works as a SD for me 24-7 and his outlet is sports. He loves it, but now he has pain and is unable to engage a decoy as they do in sport. Decoys are like human bite toys and it is Bolt's sport outlet which makes him even better as a SD for me.

I feel uncomfortable asking for money, but I love my dog and he needs help.

I thank you ahead for your kindness and understanding. He is a special dog and has been called a unicorn. He is kind to all people and has helped other people who had panic attacks on his own.

I have an email from an athlete who he helped while he was having a panic attack. Bolt also has helped a women on a plane who was having an attack while landing. He licked her hand and she was petting him while landing. Bolt is a generous dog and reads people so well. He loves children and plays with them at a duck park. In addition, is very popular everywhere we go. Has had many photos taken of him doing his agility, SD and his tricks.

My name is Spencer Rau, an Obstacle Course Racer that frequents many of the Texas events and a handful of other events when I can find the means to attend. Our paths crossed earlier this year at the 2025 Houston Trifecta Weekend where I raced in all three distances over the weekend in the Elite wave and an open wave for my Sprint completion. I'm not sure if it was Saturday or Sunday when this happened, probably Sunday since that was when the little cold front blew through and made it freezing for my Texan blood. But wanted to provide you a bit of context on my end of how I met Bolt!

A few years ago, doing a Spartan Ultra, I experienced a minor bought of hypothermia for several hours on the course. From that point on, any time that I have to go in an obstacle with cold water or get my head underwater that was chilly, I find myself a bit more stressed than I used to be. I am a perfectly fine swimmer, in fact I used to teach swim lessons to little kids at one of my previous jobs, and loved a nice contrast bath from time to time. Additionally, after that Ultra I had another bad night at Toughest Mudder in College Station, where I pretty much had a panic attack going through their Arctic Enema obstacle which caused me to drop out before the race was over. I have not been able to tolerate any form of cold environment as well as I used to.

When I saw the temperature drop the day of the race, I started to get very nervous how I would react to the cold water at the dunk wall again. It seems silly because it is not that long that you would be in the water, but the discomfort of cold wet clothes afterward still stresses me out thinking about it. But as I started into the dunk wall where you and Bolt were stationed that day, I immediately felt my body start to get stressed out. That was when I came up on the other side and Bolt came over to check on me. He was doing a great job at detecting someone having a very stressful moment to help, and he did a great job at helping me through the moment. Instead of having the thought of "I'm so cold, It's going to take me forever to warm up" my thoughts were "Wow what a nice dog that came to check on me!". I wanted to give you praise for the training you put in to pay off for a stranger that needed some help.

I can't imagine how difficult it is to train an animal to detect on these rapid changes in a person's psychological state, and the countless hours that have gone into making Bolt so great at this. I want to make sure I said thank you for having him around at a time I didn't know I needed a furry friend to ask if I was okay. Bolt is a very good boy, and I thank both of you for the great work you do for helping people have an amazing experience at the events you travel to. You have my full permission to share this message of praise with anyone you would like as both of you deserve the praise.

I look forward to seeing you and Bolt at many future events!

Spencer Rau
